Keratin Project Released-- Face Keratin Normal Map DR

Seeing the newest skin from S-Club with keratin on the face shown good effects, I just recall my stuff...

I proposed the Keratin Project in July last year, but didn't get it realized because of my technique.
So I just laid it untouched for a half year.

But you know...people always get something resolved after rest for some time...
Also for me....
Now I can share my achievement here with you~~~

Young Adult Male

This project is made with Normal Map which adds fake 3D effects on a surface.
And the keratin will look a little different in depth and direction according to your light direction and intensity.
It's totally different from other skin.
(And actually this is not a skintone, but it replaces the normal map of the skin.)


All exhibition are lightened from right-forward to iintensify the keratin effects

You can see some difference from the pictures above.


All pictures are taken in HQ.
However, by some tests, there are almost no difference in HQ and non-HQ.
Also, Teens share the same normal map with young adult.

And remember, you can only see the keratin clearly at very close distance.
You can't see your keratin at a far distance, can you.
But it still can affect the light effects on face so the face will become much more realistic.


Keratin Strength Settings:
Young Male: 13, Adult Male: 20, Elder Male: 28
Young Female: 8, Adult Female: 16, Elder Female: 25
(Settings changed.)

Child skin is very smooth, so I didn't made keratin face for child.
(Will also be available)


This is a default replacement mod.
Since almost no other skintone included normal map,
you can see the keratin effects on all skin.

However, old skin that do not support muscle definition should not show keratin effects either.
(Or it shows normal map but not muscle definition...whatever)
Use Cmar's newest Skininator to repack it.

Next project could be a big project.

Well I was just wanting to make some sexy vessels on male body but suddenly some idea popped up!




It will be another normal map project.
I want to make all body details into this normal map...
Like this picture.


Draw out every ankle and vessels details as bump map (Greyscale) and use displacement on a high resolution mesh. And bake them into normal map!

Damn... I'm an idiot...
Blender can bake to normal map just from texture.....
I don't need to do multiresolution on my mesh anymore.......
I'm free from crashing my laptop~~~~~~~~~~LOL

And the details will be more clear than using displacement method~~~

Oh... And I can add keratin to the body too. Cheer~~~~

This new version of Env lighting tweak is a totally redraw from blank. Totally different from v4.0.

In v5.0 there is gold sunrise, pink orange sunset, softer shaped but more colorful cloud, blue-purple night sky.

Such as v4.0, this mod is made with ColorRamp, you don't need to modify the world files.
And actually this is not a gaming or functional mod. It just a default replacement of the environment color setting. So this should be compatible with all patch versions and expansions.

You Are Real as non-default skin. For people who don't want to see YRL on every skin.

This one is different from other skintone. It contains ONLY normal maps. So it will use your typical default skin (diffuse map) and add fake 3D appearance on it.

Containing Male, Female and Child face and body normal maps.
Two color tone included. Normal skin color with 4 hues, and rainbow color with 4 luminosity.

I made two non-default skins, New Ab and EA's Ab, with various versions. Take only one version each.

Improved CAS Camera Angle

Sometimes I'm really tired of my SIMs face looked so different in CAS and Live mode.
However, after some testing, I found that the viewing angle in live mode we used to take is somehow different to EA did in CAS mode (Totoally horizontal).
So I just edited the camera setting ini for CAS mode.
I love the zoom-in improvement shimrod did in his Zoom-In CAS Camera mod. I just take his file so I can preserve his improved zoom-in function and changed the view angle when morphing SIMs face.

OMSP Resizer FTPT and OBJD Fixed

My FTPT and OBJD setting is different from original OMSP.
(ex. You can sit on a chair put on OMSP or use items on OMSP, but you can't do that on my OMSP resizer.)
This issue has been fixed.
Please re-download OMSP Resizer from this article.
Also set a new category to surface, misc surface.

Only the FTPT and OBJD revised so you don't need to worry that your design will be lost.
Just replace the files.

Bake Normal Map from Bump Map in Blender

Normal map is a good way to add 3D effect on a low-poly mesh. However, lots of CC creators don't know how to use this. We see lots of creations with dark/shadow parts on the diffuse map to make it more 3D-looking. However, the dark/shadow parts will not change with light direction and sometimes they look flat and weird.

So here I write this tutorial to teach you how to make normal map from bump map for your creation in blender. (I'm not using MAYA or 3D Max so you have to figure it out yourself if you're using them.)

In this tutorial, I will create a cube with an embossed heart and engraved "I love you" on it.



OK~~Our material is this cube

And its UV.....

If you don't have the UV map you can export the UV to png
Change UI to UV

Then export UV Layout

Sometimes it's pretty hard to convert the mesh to high-poly to sculpt it. So bump map is a good method to add 3D effect because we can draw it in image software.
However, one bump map can only store one-side information. So you need to draw UP and DOWN directions seperately.

So here I have this two bump map.
(UV margin line is not included in the bump map. Just show you here.)

OK. Let's get back to blender.
In 3D view mode, press N to get this panel shown.

Expand Display, set Shading to GLSL.

And change Viewport Shading to Texture.

Select the cube, Go to Material Panel, Add a new material if no material is present.

Then switch to Texture Panel just next to Material Panel.
Add a new texture

Select Type to Image or Movie.
Select your Bump Map under Image
Remember to check the box on the right of your texture to make it visible.

The texture will show on the mesh, but not mapped by UV.

Expand Mapping, change Coordinates from Generated to UV

The texture position and size should be corrected now.

But this is treated as diffuse map. We need to change it to bump map.
Expand Influence, uncheck Diffuse: Color, check Geometry: Nor
If you use bump map, then positive value will be DOWN and negative value will be UP.
Different value will give different depth.
So here I set Nor to -1.

And you can see, the heart has become embossed.

Go back to top of Texture panel. Add a new texture and do the same process again to apply "I love you" as another bump map.
Set the Nor to positive so it will be engraved.

Good! You have done applying your bump map on your mesh.
Next! We need to bake it into normal map.

It's a good way to drag the triangle to make your work space double windowed.

Change one of your window to UV/Image Editor

In the window of 3D view mode, select the cube, press Tab to go into Edit Mode, press a to select all vertex.

In UV/Image Editor window, create a new image.

You can give it a new name or leave it unchanged. Change Width and Height according to your texture size or leave it 1024.

Switch to Render Panel

Scroll down to bottom, expand Bake
Select Bake Mode as Normals, Normal Spac as Tangent.

Then press bake, and you will see the normal map baked.

Save the normal map image.

OK! You've done it!
But let's check the normal map again.

Go back to Object mode by pressing Tab in 3D view window again.
Switch to Texture Panel again
Uncheck the bump maps
Add new texture to import the baked normal map and set as what you did previously.
Check the Normal Map under Image Sampling, leave it Tangent.
Set Nor to 1


Is it over? Not yet
In SIMS3, the normal map is saved as A8L8 type. So we need to convert RGB normal map to that type.

RGB Normal Map: R=X, G=Y, B=Z information.
A8L8 Normal Map: A=X, L=Y information, Z will be calculated.

Here I use photoshop to do it.
Open baked normal map in photoshop.
Add a new alpha channel.

Copy the Red channel to Alpha.
Copy the Green channel to Red and Blue.

Save it to dds format, leave Alpha Channels checked

You can save it as A8L8, DXT5 or DXT5_NM, they all should be workable.

YOU'VE DONE!!!

P.S. You can draw your bump map in 16-bit for smoother result.

aWT eyeball cross-eyed issue fixed for both male and female, teen to elder
The UV size is adjusted a little so the iris will be 0.96x smaller (very little difference). This fix another flowering iris issue.
(Publish is allowed by aWT Mark)

Two versions available for SimSkin and SimEyes shader, choose only one,
SimSkin: Compatible with aWT eye sliders, no glowing when turning into vampire, werewolf or ghost.
SimEyes, Uncompatible with aWT eye sliders, glowing compatible.

Replace aWT's original one (aWT_MSH_LOD0-Eyeball) with this.

Star Field Texture Replacement V2 (Broken Spikes Fixed)

(All pictures above: StarIntensity=82)

V2 is another revision of the star field texture and the texture size is multiply to 1024x1024. So the star looks smaller and more delicate than V1 (removed).
The texture is also adjusted for better presentation under lower StarIntensity settings.

This is a texture default replacement which replace the following item:

*If your spec is pretty low (Texture setting to low), or you want the star twice bigger, use 512x512 version instead. 


StarIntensity=65, the star spikes and darker star will become invisible. So this one can give you natural effect with different StarIntensity settings.
